Asian African Youth Government Congress 2021 Discusses Contemporary Issues
Jakarta, Indonesia – Chairperson of the 2021 Asian African Youth Government Congress Committee (Asian African Youth Government 2021) Respiratory Saddam Al-Jihad revealed, the meeting of young people from Asia and Africa on 16-19 December 2021 in Bandung will discuss various contemporary issues faced by good countries in Asia. as well as in Africa.
“Today, in the era of 4.0 and entering society 5.0, we are faced with complex problems such as humanitarian crises, unequal education, poverty and hunger that are still rampant, and conflicts or wars still occur at some point, especially coupled with the Covid-19 outbreak. 19 which has a tremendous impact. It is important and urgent to be resolved,” said Saddam Al Jihad, in his statement, Friday (5/11).
In the performance of the Asian-African Youth Congress, it is hoped that young people must attend and become problem solvers in their country and in other countries because today what happens in one country can have an impact on other countries or the international world, for example the Israel versus Palestine conflict, the civil war in Syria and Afghanistan, as well as the Rohingya conflict in Myanmar and the Uighurs in China.
“Unfortunately, today there are still conflicts in several countries in Asia and Africa which of course lead to humanitarian crises, even international humanitarian law is often ignored and moreover there are a number of foreign countries who intervene in the name of humanity but instead make things worse for the people. achieve their interests,” he said
This PhD student at Nankai University, China is also worried that in the midst of a number of developed countries, many countries are plagued by poverty and hunger, and it is rampant both in Asia and in Africa because the highest hunger is in the Asian continent and the poorest countries are in Africa, plus with the case of Covid-19 which exacerbated the problem.
“We as Asian-African Youth must unite and uphold the spirit of the birth of the Asian-African Organization 76 years ago by upholding humanity or basic human rights, sovereignty, integrity, equal rights of all tribes and nations and the principle of togetherness. We, the youth, must become ambassadors of peace, and it must be a massive movement to create peace in Asia and Africa,” he stressed.
Saddam added that our humanity is being tested by the poverty and hunger afflicting Asian and African countries. Just imagine the highest hunger is in Asia and Africa, even the highest is in Asia, around 418 million people are hungry based on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2021 report by FAO. And the 10 poorest countries are in Africa. This is getting worse with the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.
“The education crisis is also afflicting a number of countries in Asia and Africa, imagine there are around 358 million children and youth who are completely excluded from education, 17 percent of the representation of all school-age children in the world. The majority of them are in South Asia, Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The education crisis has increased with the Covid-19, even in Indonesia,” he added.
In addition, saddam continued that in addition to the problems above, there are still a number of strategic issues that require the role of youth which will be discussed later at the 2021 Asia-Africa Congress. He mentioned the SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) program which consists of 17 points which became an agreement between countries. in the world, and not a few countries in Asia and Africa use the SDG’s as the foundation for development, such as in the Indonesian RPJM 2020-2024.
Finally, the Chair of the Committee for the Asian-African Youth Congress explained that there would be commissions to discuss issues related to Human Rights, Equality in Education, Humanity, Environment, Political Sovereignty and Economic Sovereignty among Asian African countries, Observing Regional Political issues, and most importantly affirming to reminded States not to intervene in other countries as was the case in Bandung’s Dasasila Points during the 1955 Asian-African Conference.
“So that in the future the Asian African Youth Government is expected to become an organization that does not only work voluntarily but carries out strategic agendas with other global organizations. AAYG is also expected to contribute to the stability of the Asia-Africa region in particular and the world in general, in terms of economic, social, political and cultural stability. Besides that, it can also contribute to equal distribution of education for youth in Asia and Africa,” concluded Saddam.
